An experience at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club is sure to stay with you for the rest of time, with its unparalleled natural splendour difficult to forget, as is the meticulously planned course. But it’s also the extraordinary staff at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club who inspire incredible moments that won’t be forgotten, much like Manjula Beeharry, who works as a Public Area Attendant, and who has been at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club since its creation some 16 years ago.
We chatted to her about her role and experience at Ile aux Cerfs, and this is what we discovered:
Why did you choose this to work as a Public Area Attendant?
I chose this job because, honestly, I Iove it. I love neatness and I love cleaning. It’s a great feeling to see everything in perfect order. Before I worked here, I worked as a housemaid in Italy for 14 years and found that it was the right job for me.
What about your job really motivates you?
I think it’s wonderful that I get to work on such a beautiful island with a great environment. That really motivates me, so does being able to take a boat to work and my wonderful colleagues.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
I have an early start each day, I start work at 6 am and begin by cleaning the restrooms for the golfers. I ensure all the necessary amenities are there and I make sure everything is 100% ready to welcome guests. Once I have finished with the restrooms, I clean the lobby, the restaurant and the jetty. The jetty has to be really clean and welcoming, as it’s the first thing guests see when they come to the island.
I then take a short break to have breakfast, clean the Pro Shop and the offices. Once this is done, I check the public areas and do a thorough clean of the tables and chairs. I spend the rest of the day checking in on certain areas and making sure everything is neat and clean. I check the golf course as well (I check that all the amenities are available). At this point, I usually have lunch, then I do another full clean of the restrooms and check all the other areas to see that everything is in order. Sometimes we give the golf course a big clean too otherwise I end my day at around 2 pm.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
In five years from now, I would really like to be a Supervisor.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy watching series in my free time and doing some knitting and sewing, it’s a great way to relax after a busy day.
How do you manage your personal life based on your work schedule?
I think it’s very important to find a healthy balance between your work life and your personal life. I think overall, I manage both quite well,\ by making a concerted effort to give both aspects of my life enough time despite having a very busy work schedule.
What does it need to be a good cleaner? (Apart from being well groomed, etc.)
I think it’s very important to be friendly and to have a love of cleaning. You should love what you do and always be willing to do it to the best of your ability.
What is your favourite hotel in the group?
How did you learn about Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club for the 1st time?
It’s a funny story - I actually applied to work at Le Touessrok. They decided they wanted me to work at Ile aux Cerfs instead and that’s how I heard about it!
How has IAC Golf Club changed since you started?
It has changed completely! When I first started here, we didn’t have the private beaches or the Bubble Lodge. In fact, even the golf course itself has changed a lot.
IAC Golf Club is famous worldwide and is regularly voted as the No.1 Golf Course in varying categories. How do you feel about that?
I am extremely proud to work at such a well-respected and acclaimed golf course.
Do you have any special memories from your time working at the IAC Golf Club?
There are too many to mention! One of my favourites, however, was a special international golf competition that was to be held on the island for the first time. It was really exceptional. I was a part of the organisation team and we really enjoyed the event.
How do you feel about coming to work by boat every day?
I enjoy it! But for me taking the boat is now like taking the bus, it’s become quite normal but I enjoy running to take the boat every day.
Ile aux Cerfs Golf Course is an incredible place to play a round of golf in paradise, and with people like Manjula Beehary going above and beyond for their guests, you can trust that your experience will be extraordinary.
